What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy: the use of naturally-derived essential oils for physical health and mental well-being.

We have the moral obligation to say that claims like these do not guarantee a good aromatherapy product, as they may still contain high levels of artificial oils and only a miniscule amount of the true essential oil. If an essential oil product is truly pure and natural, it will list that oil at “100%” on the ingredient label.

The Benefits of Smelling Essential Oils

Essential Oil Blends

Essential oils smell great on their own, but they can also be mixed to make complex and captivating aroma blends. Essential oils blends can also be made to measure for specific aromatherapy applications. When two or more essential oils are mixed together for a specific aromatherapeutic purpose, it is called a synergy essential blend. A synergy essential blend is considered more powerful and more effective than the individual oils by themselves.

Beyond Aromatherapy

At worst, they are useless, or even harmful. At best, they are only slightly effective, providing only a fraction of the health benefits that come from real, natural aromatherapy products.

Consumers should read the ingredient labels when looking for aromatherapy products. That way, you can be sure that the product does not contain artificial scented oils or impure chemical compounds. In general, you shouldn’t use a product if it doesn’t list the ingredients or if it doesn’t have pure essential oils. (Look for products that contain natural essential oils in the ingredient list and avoid the ones that say “fragrance” or “perfume”.)

That being said, you should also keep in mind that some reputable essential oil companies don’t list the ingredients because they want to protect the formulas of their essential oil blends. If you are unsure about the contents of a blend, you can always ask the company for more information about the essential oil blend. That will help you determine if they are selling quality essential oil blends or not.

A reputable aromatherapy brand should not have any problem disclosing their product ingredients to customers. They understand that some people have to stay away from specific essential oils due to allergies or other health problems. When used correctly, aromatherapy is beneficial for your health.
